Removal of Chloroacetanilide Herbicides from Water Using Heterogeneous Photocatalysis with TiO2/UV-A

چکیده
Chloroacetanilide herbicides are widely used in the agricultural sector throughout world. Because of their poor biodegradability, high water solubility, and long persistence, chloroacetanilide have a potential to contaminate water, conventional treatment processes do not ensure sufficient removal. Therefore, heterogeneous photocatalysis using TiO2/UV-A was investigated for degradation alachlor, acetochlor, metolachlor from water. Two commercially available TiO2 (P25 AV-01) were as photocatalysts. Different experimental setups also tested. In addition, toxicity single mixtures photocatalytic products freshwater alga Chlorella kessleri via growth inhibition test. The maximum removal efficiency 97.5%, 93.1%, 98.2%, respectively. No significant differences observed photocatalysts used. Although concentrations all during decreased, resulting increased or remained same, indicating formation toxic products.

Dechlorination of chloroacetanilide herbicides by thiosulfate salts.
Halogenated organic compounds (XOCs) are among the most widely used synthetic chemicals. Many XOCs are recalcitrant to natural degradation and have become prominent environmental contaminants. One group of such XOCs are the heavily used chloroacetanilide herbicides. We have found that chloroacetanilide herbicides are rapidly dechlorinated in water, sand, and soil by thiosulfate salts under ambi...
متن کاملA review of heterogeneous photocatalysis for water and surface disinfection.
Photo-excitation of certain semiconductors can lead to the production of reactive oxygen species that can inactivate microorganisms. The mechanisms involved are reviewed, along with two important applications. The first is the use of photocatalysis to enhance the solar disinfection of water. It is estimated that 750 million people do not have accessed to an improved source for drinking and many...
متن کاملStructural influences in relative sorptivity of chloroacetanilide herbicides on soil.
Adsorption of the chloroacetanilide herbicides acetochlor, alachlor, metolachlor, and propachlor was determined on soils and soil components, and their structural differences were used to explain their sorptivity orders. On all soils and soil humic acids, adsorption decreased in the order: metolachlor > acetochlor > propachlor > alachlor. On Ca(2+)-saturated montmorillonite, the order changed t...
